The Academy of Chinese Studies in New Orleans was established in 1977 and has been serving the metropolitan area for over 45 years. Ms. Xiaoning Kong became the 16th Principal of the Academy in 2019. She firmly believes the Academy should serve as a bridge for cultural exchange to connect people from all different backgrounds.
The school has experienced unprecedented challenges in the past three years. In order to ensure that the school is open for teaching and learning during COVID, it offered online courses for four semesters. Ms. Kong worked tirelessly to convince the parents and gain supports from them, design summer extracurricular activities and contact the faculty on a regular basis. Her work and leadership have also laid a strong foundation for the in-person classes resumed this fall. In addition, the number of student enrollment reached the Academy’s historic high. She also has a vision for School’s future. She added English as a second language course this semester to better serve the needs of community and strengthened the faculty by introducing training programs and recruiting experienced teachers.
Ms.Kong has a degree in accounting. She came to the US in 2007. Xiaoning is also a proud wife and mother married to a well-known local musician, and the couple have a beautiful daughter.
